Biography

About 20 years ago, after successfully finishing my MA in Philosophy and unsuccessfully starting a career in IT, I was admitted to the Academy of Fine Art in Arnhem. Four years later I graduated with honour and started an 18 month long philosophical art project in service of the Amsterdam Police Force. I concluded this project (and for that moment my artistic career) with the publication of my art book “Omdat de wereld al mooi genoeg is…” (Because the world is already beautiful enough…).

From 2005 to 2008 I made about 25 oil paintings, 25 cardboard collages, 3 room sized installations, 10 plush dolls nailed to planks, hundreds of photos and drawings and enough poems to last me numerous live performances.

After that I tried changing the world by going full public sector…

Around 2018 I had a two year creative intermezzo. I started doing stand-up comedy and took up the magic pen to create my first graphic novel: Savior. A philosophical fiction story in which a gifted young child explores the mesmerising surreal landscape of her mind to find an answer to one of life’s paradoxes: how do you stop destruction without being destructive yourself.

After that I tried changing myself by going back to the public sector… And that actually worked out pretty well.

Now I’m happily working as a very philosophically orientated strategic advisor within local government. And in my free time you can see me improvise on stage with my improv theatre group Boenwas.

A few months ago I started drawing again. Gag cartoons, found poetry, random imagery. Work that I enjoy, work that is recognisably me even though it changes every day, work that hopefully will lead to a conversation that brings new light.

Those conversations are best in real life. But to start it off feel free to email me. Just use my name and add either the g or the hot!

And don’t forget to leave one or more comments with my posts. I will highly appreciate it!
